Season 2 episode 20 of The Flash , “Rupture,” airs this week. Cisco (aka Vibe) will meet his Earth-2 brother, Dante Ramon, who goes by Rupture. The sonic-powered supervillain is gunning for Team Flash to get revenge for his fallen brother, Reverb. As if the The Flash didn't already have enough on his plate with Zoom’s presence looming over Central City now that the breach is back open, he now also has to figure out a way to get his speed back. At the end of the last episode, “Back To Normal,” Harrison Wells revealed a dangerous plan to reconnect Barry to the speed force: replicate the particle accelerator explosion.
Obviously Barry is going to get his speed back, it’s just a matter of when. I’d imagine we’ll see Dr. Wells’ risky plan play out in “Rupture,” seeing the synopsis for the following episode, “The Runaway Dinosaur,’ reveals Barry is “gone” and “fighting to return to his old life.” On the other hand, that could mean anything. There’s no way Barry is about to just electrocute himself without consequence. There’s always the possibility he ends up in some alternate universe in a different point in time, like when he randomly ended up in National City with Supergirl.
There’s no predicting the aftereffects of the particle accelerator explosion, and CW’s synopsis for Season 2 Episode 22 is a bit suspect. The CW teased us with a huge easter egg in “Back To Normal” when Harrison Wells called his daughter Jesse Quick. Although, I don’t think we’ll see Jesse running at lightning speed anytime soon. With her five college degrees, she’s buddied up with Cisco in the lab doing nerd stuff. Wally West (the third incarnation of The Flash) is the one to watch, particularly because of a huge tease revealed in the “Invincible” (May 17) synopsis: “Wally takes to the streets to help The Flash stop metahumans.”
How will an untrained, powerless, teenager help Barry defeat an army of metas? The particle accelorator explosion turning Wally into a speedster almost feels too predictable seeing that's also how Barry developed his powers. However, each episode brings another indication that Kid Flash is Wally's fate on the show. Ever since The Flash gave up his speed to save Wally, he’s had a complete change of attitude and is slowly starting to develop a superhero mentality. He’s also bound to figure out The Flash is his brother, Barry, anytime now. With The Flash gone in the episode prior, Wally may feel particularly compelled to join the rest of his family and defend the city.
Flash EP Andrew Kreisberg teased Wally could transform into Kid Flash before Season 2 even started, comparing the transformation to The Arsenal on Arrow .
“I would liken Wally coming in the way we brought on Colton Haynes to Arrow . Just like with Colton Haynes, who eventually one day put on the Arsenal costume, I wouldn’t be surprised if one day Wally West becomes Kid Flash,” Kreisberg told EW.
On the other hand, Kreisberg also recently warned that “for the most part” the series will always be centered around Barry Allen’s Flash. “Right now, the show is called The Flash . For the most part, Barry Allen is the only Flash,” he revealed to Collider this week.
There’s still no official synopsis for The Flash season finale on May 24 where the identity of the mysterious man behind the iron mask will be revealed. Black Canary’s tenure on Arrow is over, but she’ll be making a guest appearance in “Invincible” as an Earth-2 supervillain, Black Siren. Zoom’s gearing up to “unleash an army of Earth-2 metahumans on Central City,” and Barry is taken back when he learns Black Canary’s doppleganger, Black Siren, is their leader.
