The Central City Citizen newspaper clipping predicted Iris’ death in the “Invasion!” crossover, but now Barry has seen it happen with his own two eyes. Six months from now, Savitar will kill Iris with a blade through the chest. Now it’s Team Flash’s mission to prevent that fateful day from happening. As revealed in a promo, Barry and Cisco will travel into the future to try and fend off Savitar. But will their plan work?
“Whether they do get out of it is the question,” Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg tells Entertainment Weekly.“In an upcoming episode, they learn a little bit more about the future and they now have a list of things they know will occur between now and May.”
Between now and May is a long time, suggesting Barry’s quest to save Iris will last for the rest of Season 3. Kreisberg also revealed there’s a “mission for every week.”
“Their operating principle is can they stop enough of these things to change time? They have a little bit of a road map. It reminds me of Oliver’s list. They’ve got a mission every week to see if they can change the future.”
There’s a few roadblocks we already know Barry will face along the way. One of them is his old foe, Gorilla Grodd. Another is Plunder, and there’s also Gypsy, a bounty hunter after H.R. Wells. Also expect the return of two big characters from The Flash Season 1: Eddie Thawne and Ronnie Raymond. And last but not least, get ready for Black Flash’s official debut later in Season 3.
The Flash returns Jan. 24.
