The Flash Season 4 features the “fastest man alive versus the fastest mind alive,” executive producer Todd Helbing said at San Diego Comic-Con. The EP is referring to Clifford DeVoe, a.k.a. The Thinker. Abra Kadabra mentioned DeVoe in Season 3 episode 18, saying Barry’s biggest foes -- Thawne, Zoom, or The Thinker -- don’t compare to the threat of Savitar. Now it’s been confirmed Neil Sandilands will play the villain in Season 4.
We’re thinking Prometheus from Arrow , but a thousand times worse, and it looks like that’s what BossLogic has in mind too. Kode Abdo, the digital artist who goes by BossLogic, created a Flash Season 4 poster that should get you really hyped for what’s to come.
The Thinker is a puppeteer, and he’s going to outwit The Flash. One would think Barry Allen has some newfound wisdom after being stuck in the speed force for six months. It wouldn’t be abnormal for him to completely change his lifestyle and be a different kind of hero, an altruist who has learned from his mistakes. There’s no question The Thinker is going to take advantage of this vulnerability, and that's really what this poster is saying.
Clifford DeVoe is the original Thinker, an ex-lawyer famous for his ‘Thinking Cap,’ giving the villain telekinesis and mind control abilities. He became a member of the Injustice Society and Suicide Squad. After DeVoe’s death, his cap technology (to the fault of Mr. Terrific) lived on, grew sentient, and became the AI Thinker. Future Barry from 2024 did mention he used a “cerebral inhibitor” against Devoe.
When will The Thinker come into play? When Season 4 starts, Barry will still be stuck in the speed force. Carlos Valdes, who plays Vibe, said he’ll be working tirelessly to get Barry out but there is one person on the team who thinks Barry’s return isn’t the best idea. This could mean Team Flash won’t be 100 percent to face off against this new villain. And since DeVoe isn’t a speedster, it’s definitely going to take a team effort.
“I wish I could say that the team unanimously agrees that things are not the same when the season starts, but not everybody feels that way,” Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco Ramon, tells Entertainment Weekly. “Most of the energy on the team is toward getting Barry back, and Cisco may or may not have some things up his sleeve with regards with how to make that happen, but there is a member of the team that’s not on board, and that ultimately makes the mission to get Barry back a lot more difficult. But the thing about Cisco is if he wants to get his friends back, he will do whatever it takes the get his friends back — and that’s not just Barry.”
So can Team Flash come together and defeat The Thinker? That’s the real question heading into Season 4. It’s only a matter of time before Barry comes out of the speed force, but will he be the same Barry and will Team Flash forgive him for what he’s done? There’s no way Barry can defeat DeVoe on his own.
Make sure to show BossLogic some love and support on Twitter and Instagram because he does all this stuff for FREE. Heck, maybe even buy some of his prints.
The Flash Season 4 premieres in Oct. 11.
