'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 And 8 Won't Be The End, 'There Will Be Other Series Set In Westeros' Says Showrunner

After winning three Emmys on Sunday, the Game of Thrones cast and crew answered some questions about the upcoming Season 7. Showrunner D.B. Weiss said, “It will be bigger and it will be better. And it will also be worse. But mostly better.”

But more interesting than the vague non-answers about the last two seasons, 7 and 8, of Game of Thrones were answers about potential spin-off or sequel series. Asked about a possible prequel series the other Game of Thrones showrunner, David Benioff, said, “You might want to ask George [R.R. Martin] about that,” elaborating with, “I’m sure there will be other series set in Westeros. But for us, this is it. So that’s really a question for George.”

With A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin so busy with the last two Game of Thrones novels — The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring — he also has expressed no interest in pushing forward any further adaptations.

"Well I do have thousands of pages of fake history that have led up to Game of Thrones. At the moment, we still have a show to finish and I still have two books to finish," Martin said at the Emmy Awards press event, "So for now, that's all speculation."

So while there’s no doubt that the world hasn’t seen the last of Westeros on-screen, any further spin-offs or adaptations will likely be launched with different producing talent than the current HBO Game of Thrones team.
