Gears of War 4 is Game Informer’s March cover story, and tons of new details about the upcoming shooter have surfaced. Not only do we know who the three main characters for Gears 4 will be, but we also know more about the story, setting and even gameplay details.

Gears of War 4 will take place 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3. The war with the Locust has come to a close, but now the planet of Sera is in way worse condition because of it. All fossil fuels have been depleted, and the planet is plagued by terrible wind storms.

These wind storms, called windflares, come in four different varieties. The first one is simply a really bad wind storm, with trees, dust and debris getting kicked around. The other three windflares build on this, and come with different weather dangers such as lightning.

As for who you will actually be playing as, the main character of Gears of War 4 is JD Fenix. Fenix is the son of Marcus Fenix, the protagonist for the first three Gears of War games. JD has apparently gone AWOL from the COG army after a classified incident. JD will be voiced by Liam McIntyre, the actor known for his roles in Spartacus on Showtime and The Flash.

Along with JD, there are two other main characters in Gears of War 4. Delmont “Del” Walker is JD’s soldier buddy who joins him in going AWOL. Del will be voiced by Eugene Byrd, most famous for playing Boomer in Battlefield Hardline.

Lastly, we have Kait Diaz. Diaz is an “Outsider,” or human who grew up outside the walls of a city on Sera. Diaz will be voiced by Laura Bailey, an accomplished voice actress with roles ranging from Halo 5 to World of Warcraft to Dragon Ball Z.

Before you ask, yes - Gears of War 4 will feature the return of two player couch co-op. Sure, there will also be multiplayer modes and everything you’d expect from a modern-day shooter, but couch co-op! That’s a selling point right there.

These three heroes will have to face a new enemy this time around called “The Swarm.” Little is known about them right now, but it seems they may have been born as a result of throwing countless Locust into mass graves.

The base form of these enemies will be called Juvies. Juvies can then transform into Drones, which are capable of using weapons. We’ve also seen the Pouncer enemy from the Gears of War 4 E3 trailer last year.

So what do you think? Are you excited to see what the Gears of War universe will look like 25 years in the future? Do you think you’ll enjoy mowing down the Swarm as much as you did the Locust? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
