The official Evangelion site has announced what they call “the most maximum collaboration of 2016”: a collaboration between the iconic Japanese franchises of Godzilla and Neon Genesis Evangelion .
The site for Toho’s new Godzilla movie ( Godzilla Resurgence or Shin Gojira in Japan), co-directed by Hideaki Anno of Evangelion fame and Shinji Higuchi of Attack on Titan , was updated with the promotional visual. The Evangelion site was similarly updated with an image of the battle between Godzilla and Unit 01. The news comes via Kotaku .
Better yet: this does not, repeat, does not appear to be an April Fools’ Joke. Praise our lizard overlords, because the merchandise line presented on the collaboration website looks dope as hell:.
The merchandise is offered by Groove Garage and includes GojiNERV and EVANGELION STOMP IMPACT shirts (3,000yen), Velcro patches (1500yen) and key rings (1,500yen. The collaboration merch will be available in June, in Japan only, of course.
The visual for the collaboration project will also be featured on a limited run of clear files (only 55,555 units available). The files will be offered with advanced Godzilla Resurgence ticket sales starting April 23.
Now if only we could get Godzilla x Evangelion x Pacific Rim … talk about a monster collaboration for the ages.
