In the Konami vs. Kojima saga, Hideo Kojima is the ex-boyfriend trying to be cordial, Guillermo del Toro is the best friend that talks shit for you and Konami is the partner trying to save face because they know they did wrong.
There’s no better example of this than Kojima’s latest statement about ending his business relationship with Konami. Kojima told IGN he’s taking his experiences and things he learned about his time with Konami into his new journey with his own gaming studio, Kojima Productions.
"The me that stands here now is the product of the past 53 years of my life,” Kojima said. “Everything I experienced over 53 years; movies I’ve seen, books I’ve read, music I’ve listened to, games I’ve played, people I’ve met and the 30 years spent in this industry, have formed who I am. Not one of these things has been without purpose, including my experience creating games at Konami. I’m embarking on a new challenge with a fresh slate, but I intend to keep pushing the creative envelope until the day I die. I believe my experiences over the past 53 years won’t lead me astray."
While Kojima gets to be polite, his friend del Toro is being petty for him. In fact, del Toro took his pettiness to Twitter multiple times for screwing them over with the cancellation of Silent Hills. Yes, it’s almost been two years since Konami canceled the horror game, but it doesn’t make it hurt any less.
“Konami cancelling SH after PT is one of the most moronic things I've ever witnessed,” del Toro tweeted last December. Del Toro also added, “FUCK KONAMI.”
Silent Hills might be dead, but Death Stranding is very much alive. We’ll get to see del Toro live out his dream to be in a video game and hopefully more naked Norman Reedus. Death Stranding is currently in-development.
