Verizon is adamant about getting its subscribers off of unlimited data plans. Recent reports indicate the mobile carrier will be raising the price of its currently unlimited data plans by $20 for select users starting May 15.
The move is part of an overall push to opt for one of Verizon’s tiered data plans, according to Droid Life . In November 2015, the carrier began its first wave of increasing the price of its unlimited data plan from $29.99 to $49.99 for subscribers who had unlimited data because they had out-of-contract service.
Now, Verizon is targeting subscribers who have gone out of contract between November 2015 and May 2016. The carrier began alerting subscribers of the coming changes at the beginning of the current billing cycle, which began April 1.
Keep in mind, this increase will only affect customers who have recently gone out contract and are currently paying $29.99 for their unlimited service. The $20 increase will bring their service cost to $49.99. Those who have already seen an price increase to their unlimited data service will not accrue further charges to their accounts.
Verizon is expected to roll out a third phase of price increases for unlimited data plans in the future.
