A schematic detailing the basic design concepts of the iPhone 7 has been published by Nowhereelse.fr, a French tech blog known for breaking iPhone rumor exclusives. Nowhereelse.fr apparently obtained the advance design schematics from a Catcher employee, the subcontractor Apple uses to supply the iPhone chassis.
The leaked concept image shows an enlarged cutout for the camera module, but one that is not big enough to support two cameras. This design feature lends credence to the idea that Apple is planning on instituting a third price tier for the iPhone, one that’s more expensive but offers higher-end features, like a dual-camera setup.
A dual-camera setup would allow the luxury tier of the iPhone 7 to have special abilities, like enhanced digital zoom and always on slow motion video recording. Apple obtained this technology when they acquired LinX, a firm that specialized in multiple lens camera technology.
The most interesting thing about this leak, however, is the revelation that the iPhone 7 base model will be the same width and length as the current iPhone 6s, exactly 5.44 inches by 2.6 inches. The design schematic unfortunately does not mention thickness, but hopefully Apple will somehow innovate there.
