Display manufacturer Japan Display announced its next generation Pixel Eyes LCD screen. According to the report, the new Pixel Eyes screen will introduce a new piece of technology, which heavily suggests that the upcoming iPhone 7 will most likely be a waterproof smartphone.
According to Japan Display, the new Pixel Eyes is capable to work with a user's wet hands and fingers. The latest announcement is in-line with rumors that suggest that the upcoming iPhone 7 waterproof. In the past, patent filings revealed that Apple has been working on curious innovations including an "active shutter" and waterproof speakers that "eject water."
Other new Pixel Eyes features include significantly improved sensitivity, which allows the screen to recognize inputs as thing as 1mm compared to the 2mm of the previous generation. According to the company, the improved sensitivity and accuracy enables the " ability to smoothly input characters and graphics with a finer stylus, as narrow as 1mm in width ." I don't know about you, but I don't really know of any iPhone users that rely on a stylus nor as a platform to input graphics. That said, this suggests that the new Pixel Eyes screen will likely make its way to the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil support. Finally, the new Pixel Eyes screen also features a thinner bezel that measures 0.5 mm, or 0.3 mm thinner than the outgoing version.
