The latest Kingdom Hearts 3 rumors claim Square Enix is gearing up to release the highly anticipated title next year.
The rumor popped up on the Kingdom Hearts subreddit claiming a “verified source” had valid information regarding development. Of course, the source wasn’t named and Square Enix hasn’t commented on the Kingdom Hearts 3 release date, so there’s no way to fact-check the claims. Here’s what the reddit user wrote regarding the Kingdom Hearts 3 rumors:
Release date is targeted NOW to March 2018, it could be delayed if there are problems in development.
As Nomura stated, there are certain playable zones and the game should be fully playable in August.
They're working on redoing PS2 assets (possibly for returning worlds).
The zones already developed for KH3 look very, VERY beautiful.
When a new build is done and Nomura checks it, he wants it to be better in certain aspects. He wants the game to have very good quality standards.
Kingdom Hearts 3 director Tetsuya Nomura did confirm to Famitsu in January that the game development was on schedule. Nomura explained the Kingdom Hearts 3 team works on one world at a time to completion before moving on to the next. This process takes bit longer than he would like, but Nomura doesn’t want to rush game development.
“[Kingdom Hearts 3] requires a different work process than other titles so far, so I can't strictly say,” Nomura told Famitsu. “On one hand there are worlds that are pretty much finished, on the other hand there are worlds we still haven't even touched. Worlds we haven't announced yet tend to be further along in development, so we're at a stage where what we could show is what we can't show. Maybe hearing there's parts we 'still haven't touched' is going to make people worry, but it's business as usual.
Nomura continued, “We never start by working on all the worlds at the same time. In order to avoid having to redo things once we've started it's necessary to let things take shape only after all the elements have received approval, and there are currently some worlds that are still being audited. As I said a while ago, we also have to remake all the character models and such for current-gen consoles, so there's still a lot of development work to do. But, you don't have to worry about the quality, so please wait until the next opportunity I have to show you something. Preparations are underway.”
A 2018 release date doesn’t sound so outrageous, considering the game has been in development since 2013. Another Kingdom Hearts 3 rumor points to the game possibly building up to a massive Keyblade War that may end Sora’s story for good. Hopefully Square Enix will provide an update at E3 2017. The studio has yet to confirm their appearance at the expo, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they dropped a trailer during Sony’s press conference.
