Kingdom Hearts 3 hasn’t been seen in trailer form since the end of 2015, but new translations suggest a showcase could be on the way. A Dengeki PlayStation interview, as translated by KH13, mentions something special for the Kingdom Hearts World Tour series of orchestra concerts beginning March 10.
When franchise composer Yoko Shimomura was asked about the show’s potential setlist, she mentioned that herself and game director Tetsuya Nomura collaborated on the performance to create something designed to make fans happy. It’s what she teased next, however, that was most interesting. “Mr. Tetsu is also the supervisor of the movie that is going to play in the hall," she said, "so please look forward to that."
Since nothing more was said on the matter, we can only speculate as to what this “movie” might contain. The simplest logic, of course, would suggest that maybe there’s some sort of cutscene visual accompaniment to the proceedings. However, if it’s just a rehash of events from the games, that seems like an awfully small task to mandate Nomura’s direct supervision.
The other line of thought, then, is that maybe this clip is actually a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3. After all, the entire event is meant to celebrate the series’ fifteenth anniversary. It would make sense to offer something special for those diehard followers that will likely be in attendance. It’s also worth recalling that the Kingdom Hearts 2.8 E3 trailer mentioned something for the third installment this winter. The very first concert takes place in Tokyo on March 10, just 10 days before the winter season ends. While slightly less concrete, Nomura also discussed taking a deeper dive into the game shortly after Kingdom Hearts 2.8’s release.
In other words, while a trailer reveal isn’t a guarantee, it seems the conditions might be just right for some kind of preview.
The Kingdom Hearts orchestra series has shows at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre June 10 through 14 and New York’s United Palace Theatre June 24. Tickets are still available for many performances.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is in development for PS4 and Xbox One.
