The Kingdom Hearts Franchise will celebrate the game’s 15th anniversary this March. It’s a big milestone for Square Enix and we’re curious how the studio will celebrate. Could we see a Kingdom Hearts 3 update? We wouldn’t be surprised!
Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced during E3 2013. The game’s director Tetsuya Nomura has said on multiple occasions that Kingdom Hearts 3 is developing as planned. Nomura’s last update regarding production was during an interview with Famitsu released in January, where Nomura assured fans everything was “business as usual.”
“We never start by working on all the worlds at the same time,” Nomura told Famitsu . “In order to avoid having to redo things once we've started it's necessary to let things take shape only after all the elements have received approval, and there are currently some worlds that are still being audited. As I said a while ago, we also have to remake all the character models and such for current-gen consoles, so there's still a lot of development work to do. But, you don't have to worry about the quality, so please wait until the next opportunity I have to show you something. Preparations are underway.”
Unfortunately, Nomura and Square Enix have released few details about the game, which leads us to Kingdom Hearts 15th Anniversary. The game was released on March 28, 2002. Square Enix recently celebrated Final Fantasy ’s anniversary by releasing an image of Cloud and Sephiroth from the Final Fantasy VII Remake, it’s not unlikely they’ll do something similar for Kingdom Hearts 3 .
Fans are due an update trailer. The last footage of Kingdom Hearts 3 was released during E3 2015. The production team has to have made some progress. It would be great if Square Enix confirmed another world on the Kingdom Hearts 3 anniversary or a released a new image of Sora. If anything, a release date window would be nice, something along the lines of “Fall 2018.”
