Boy, I’m so glad I don’t have to do this. A redditor with the handle Rosien_HoH broke down the new Kingsman: The Golden Circle teaser, which is 15 seconds of rapid-fire imagery. It’s almost completely incomprehensible to watch, so it’s good to see someone has already done the yeoman’s work of picking it apart for us.
The teaser, posted by Kingsman lead Taron Egerton (he plays British superspy Eggsy), posted the teaser to Twitter, writing, “just a little taste, bruv” and calling it a gift from director Matthew Vaughn. The new Kingsman takes Eggsy and Merlin (Mark Strong) to America, where they team up with their American counterparts, the spy organization known as the Statesmen, headed by Jeff Bridges, with Channing Tatum as an agent under his command.
The teaser trailer is basically incomprehensible on its own:
But the shot-by-shot breakdown reveals a lot of cool details. Some of my favorites:
- An American-style diner in the middle of some jungle ruins, perhaps a commentary on American imperialism?
- A look at America’s new president, after Barack Obama’s head exploded in the first movie.
- Robot dogs!
- Eggsy firing a rocket from a pastel suitcase.
- Cybernetic arms and bull whips!
Here’s the full breakdown:
Kingsman: The Golden Circle trailer - Frame by Frame
It’s also possible to piece together a bit of the plot from the rapid-fire Golden Circle teaser images. It looks like Poppy (Julianne Moore) has some sort of evil scheme involving pharmaceuticals. That’s right, another eccentric, evil billionaire looking to change the world.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is out in theaters Sept. 29. And since this trailer is more hints than actual footage, expect a trailer soon.
