'League of Legends' Dignitas Manages to Throw Harder Than Anyone Else

I think Dignitas is addicted to throwing. They must get a sick rush by getting so close to victory and then having it pulled away at the last second. This weekend, Dignitas managed to stand on the cusp of victory, only to lose it by playing stupidly in late-game team fights, twice. Here’s what Zirene tweeted about the game:

On Saturday, Dignitas went up against Echo Fox and played one of the most unique games of professional League ever. The game dragged out so long, five members from both teams managed to break CS records. In the end, Dignitas had gotten three barons and fifth dragon three times. In the history of League of Legends , no team has lost with a lead that gigantic. Dignitas, in an effort to disappoint all their fans, managed to lose when it seemed completely impossible. You could hear everyone’s jaw hit the floor in the LCS studio.

Cut to the day after and Dignitas are getting ready to play Immortals, the nearly undefeated first-place team. Nobody expects them to win, since Immortals outclass them in nearly every facet. Team fighting, farming and objective control are Immortals best points, and Dignitas sucks at all three. Then something weird happens: Dignitas starts to do well in the early game. Kirei on Gragas gets some great flash Body Slams off, netting Shiphtur on Corki in the mid lane some kills.

Slowly their lead starts to snowball, as they win team fights with good engages. It’s a shock to everyone: Dignitas might actually beat Immortals. Then Dignitas does what they do best, throw the game at Baron. At 40 minutes, Dignitas was 10k gold ahead, but three minutes later it was down to a 3k lead. Pobelter on Twisted Fate got three kills in the Baron pit, securing his team a Baron kill. Immortals then closed the game out, ending the game at 48 minutes. You can actually hear Kobe yell “you’ve got to be shitting me” towards the end of that game.

The Dignitas baron throw meme has been around since the days of Scarra; it’s something the team has always struggled with. Even with all of these poor performances, Dignitas has shown that they are not a bad team. Kiwikid is still a great support and each member of Dignitas has solid mechanics. They still got close to beating Immortals, something very few teams have accomplished.

I truly believe the members of Dignitas either get a rush out of disappointing their fans or they are just that bad at the late game.
