Nintendo has revealed some adorable new Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild art for the holidays, including Link’s cold weather tunic, a screenshot of Link facing off against the freezing blue yonder and some festive art of Link inside a stone lodge. Check out the art below:
Might the cold weather tunic be craftable? “This concept for Link’s cold weather tunic looks nice and warm – he’s probably going to want some socks though!” said Nintendo in a Facebook post. Please let me craft him some thick warm socks for the season. Crochet!Link ahoy?
This screenshot of Link against the elements with little more than a campfire under a lean-to for shelter really feels lonely and vast, with his dusty blue tunic and the brightness of the fire the only spots of color in a silvery world. It reminds me of some other open-world survival games, like The Long Dark, which I really enjoy.
This bit of holiday art is probably my favorite of the newly-released Breath of the Wild art and screenshots. I don’t know what’s cuter: the highly festive Guardian bedecked in bright lights and tinsel and topped off with a star, the Bokoblin snowman and its little fangs, or Link himself, staring out into the cold with his wolf alter ego by his side. (It’s wrong to call the wolf his fursona, right? Like, morally?)
Their matching blank expressions of “What the hell is out there” are too adorbs, especially considering that, well, someone had to build the snowman and light up the Guardian. And I know it wasn’t the wolf, so what’s with the blank look, Link? Holiday festivities got you in a food coma? Interior decorating puts you in a fugue state?
We’ve seen other concept art before, including a closer look at Link’s default blue tunic as well as holiday art for Halloween:
Nintendo has promised via their official Facebook page for Legend of Zelda that “now until the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, we’ll be exploring the Hyrulean landscape with new screenshots.” We can certainly expect more shots of the game itself, but the art is a special treat.
We also know that some very slick-looking guides are on the way from Piggyback Guides:
(Man, I wish one of those was an artbook instead!)
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will release for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo Switch in 2017. Are you looking forward to it? Feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
