There are claims going around that NetEase Games is planting fake heroes in game files for "Marvel Rivals" in order to fool leakers who may be looking to reveal future-planned characters.
The discussions about the supposed fake heroes first surfaced on the "Marvel Rivals" Leak discord channel. This is where data miner and leaker Keone posted that the developer was likely planting hero data to confuse people who are looking at game files.
Fake Marvel Rivals Heroes
In his post, Keone explained that it came to their attention that "Marvel Rivals" developers set up characters to catch leakers. He argued that the fake heroes were in the code but could also be among insider sources.
He said that Kang will be able to explain more about the situation moving forward but they did release a list of what they were able to figure out.
The list was showcased as a picture on the Discord channel that showed characters they believed were not actually coming to "Marvel Rivals," according to Insider Gaming.
However, that's not all there is to the story as XOX Leaking Team member zvis_ceral, who is another dataminer for "Marvel Rivals," added to the discussion. He said that a list he shared was not a 100% confirmation of what characters are actually coming to the hero shooter.
The post only noted that the heroes they found were the ones that were inside the game's files. The idea of developers adding fake code to confuse dataminers is uncommon but highly plausible. However, it doesn't really make much sense for them to do so.
Confusing Dataminers and Leakers
The situation comes as there has been an increasing number of leaks for characters that could be coming to "Marvel Rivals" in the future. Right now, there are 22 different heroes that are said to be planned for release sometime in the future, Forbes said.
This number, coupled with the confirmation that NetEase Games plans to release a new hero every six weeks, means that the list could signal what is to come to the game for the next three years.
While some dataminers and leakers have tried to determine which of the alleged fake heroes are actually real, there is no official confirmation for these claims.
So far, the community is being led to believe that Deadpool and Blade are two of the heroes that are actually planned for release.
As of right now, there is nothing that is officially confirmed for "Marvel Rivals," whether that be future planned heroes or potentially fake characters added to the game files, so take everything with a grain of salt, according to Game Rant.
