Mass Effect: Andromeda remains in development at BioWare and work has been getting pretty sexy over at the Canadian studio. While we can’t see the game yet, tweets teased that romance attributes were fleshed out over the last few days.

Producer Fabrice Condominas began the dialogue by saying “a lot of love is being added to the game. Literally that is.” His outspoken colleague Michael Gamble then replied “let’s call it what it is: alien sex.” Condominas conceded that there’s certainly “a lot of blue butts” on the screens of his fellow developers.

Especially for fans of the Mass Effect series, any mention of romance should be enough to get the hype train rolling. In the previous Commander Shepard trilogy of games, players had the option of courting certain characters based on the chosen gender of their protagonist. However, in the famous case of Asari scientist Liara T'Soni, she was open for wooing regardless of starting preference. While the action-packed plot of the franchise was an area of focus, relationships added choice and social depth to the experience.

With that significance in mind, it’s no surprise that BioWare designer Ian Frazier was positively tickled with his latest workplace duty. “FACT: It is extremely difficult to avoid going full fanboy in a romance review,” he gushed. In a moment of candor, he also admitted that it’s “impossible to avoid giggling” as well.

These teases are certainly entertaining, but they don’t necessarily offer much insight into how romance will work in Mass Effect: Andromeda. Frazier did tell a fan that the interactions were between humans and aliens, but, given the past games, that’s not much of a surprise. The refrenced mention of “blue butts” may be a slight nod to another Asari, but we can’t say for sure.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is scheduled to launch in early 2017. A major reveal is also anticipated for N7 Day on Nov. 7.
