Publisher GameTomo has just announced the next installment in their Project Nimbus series. Titled Nimbus INFINITY, the mech action game is currently in development for PC via Steam and consoles. There has been no confirmed news yet whether this will be released for current or next gen consoles, however.
Set near the beginning of the 22nd Century, players are dropped in a world where great wars have forced half of humanity to migrate into space and build new colonies. The Battle Frames, which can only be used by elite pilots, have fallen into dilapidated states of disuse, with the warring factions on Earth gaining advantage through superior number and brute tactics. The game’s main characters that have been introduced so far (and I would assume the main playable characters, too) are: Taiyo Iwata, a 17-year old high schooler from Saitama who moonlights as a tofu delivery boy to make ends meet. With his single mother working in a different city, this leaves him mostly to his own devices and lets him live a peaceful and mundane life. This is the case until the eve of 2100, when he sees a bright light streak across the sky that signals the future of humanity once again hanging in the balance of good and evil.
The next character introduced is Luna Campbell, a 15-year old girl of British descent, hailing from a wealthy family with “significant influence in both the terrestrial and extraterrestrial economies”. Her sheltered and privileged upbringing is going to be shattered unexpectedly soon enough.
Gameplay wise, its predecessor Project Nimbus has already given players an idea of what to expect from Nimbus INFINITY. Players control Battle Frames: giant mech suits that can be outfitted with different weaponry such as missiles and blades. A variety of enemy types are also present like huge ships, planes, and other battle mechs. Lastly, a plethora of different battlefields such as wartorn cities, the skies, forests, seas, and even outer space battles are included. The huge question that remains is what Gamecrafters and GameTomo will add and improve on a title that is already solid and seems finished on its own, and players will soon find out.
