The first significant information on Minecraft 1.11 is finally out in the wild, thanks to a lengthy presentation during Minecon 2016, and it looks like Mojang is planning to implement some of its most ambitious features yet in the next big Minecraft update. Here’s everything we know so far.
Sadly, we missed Minecraft designer Jens Bergensten’s initial presentation, partially because (like millions of other players) we simply couldn’t make it to Minecon this year. But we’re also knee deep in the fall/holiday release calendar already, meaning our weekend hours are mostly dedicated to playing new games for the next few months. But it sounds like Mojang still has plenty of amazing new ideas for its ultra-popular sandbox game, including a new set of mounts that should make life just a little bit easier for the hoarder in all of us. Llamas are coming in Minecraft 1.11 and they’re the smartest additions yet. Llamas form caravans when traveling near one another, and attack enemy mobs with their spit, making them excellent companions while you’re collecting resources.
Llamas aren’t the only new storage option in Minecraft 1.11, either. The next patch for Mojang’s sandbox game will introduce a new chest, the Shulker Box, that doesn’t spill its contents when moved from one spot to another. Don’t be surprised if the recipe for the Shulker Box requires a few more (and/or rare) mats that aren’t needed for standard chests. But the new Shulker Boxes should be popular with anyone who prefers manufacturing-focused Minecraft mods.
The next Minecraft patch will also introduce a new randomly-generated structure, Woodland Mansions, which are home to a new kind of magic-wielding mob called Illagers. The new mobs are mostly humanoid, with a pair of wings enabling flight and the ability to summon additional minions, called Vexes, for help in combat. The Illagers also rely heavily on magic when attack. Finding the mansions will be easier in Minecraft 1.11 too, thanks to new maps (sold by village cartographers) revealing the locations of nearby Woodland Mansions and Underwater Temples.
Best of all, Mojang says additional information on Minecraft 1.11 will emerge later this week when the first big snapshot of this dev cycle goes goes live. So don’t forget to check back on Wednesday for more on the future of .
