More details about Bungie's upcoming MOBA "Gummy Bears" have leaked and show that it takes inspiration from Nintendo's " Smash Bros." franchise.
There has been little information regarding the latest project by Bungie other than the concept art that the studio released beforehand. Previously, it was known that "Gummy Bears" was being developed alongside "Marathon."
Gummy Bears' Inspiration
A new report now claims that the project is being described as a team-based competitive MOBA and is being designed to cater to a younger audience. It will apparently feature a brighter and more vibrant art style and have "lo-fi and cozy vibes."
Bungie's latest game will supposedly feature a percentage-based health system that was said to be similar to the "Smash Bros." franchise.
There were also claims that players are susceptible to being knocked off the map entirely, which is also something similarly seen in Nintendo's series.
On the other hand, the studio provided an update on "Marathon" last year where game director Joe Ziegler discussed the state of the project.
The nine-minute video on YouTube noted that the studio went dark in 2023 to focus working on the game, adding that it will be available for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, according to the Video Games Chronicle.
The newest details about "Gummy Bears" come as Bungie recently had a round of layoffs where a portion of the studio was told to keep working on the project.
The similarities with Nintendo's "Smash Bros." franchise have sparked concerns that the latter could pursue legal action.
A Smash Bros.-inspired MOBA Hybrid
The fact that "Gummy Bears" will be a team-based MOBA means that it will feature Attack, Defense, and Support classes. Additionally, some fans expect the game to have Towers that are not static and have the ability to move or have different abilities.
The latest reports also come as the game is being viewed as very fun internally and is the studio's most fun project that is currently in development.
However, some fans are skeptical as Sony was also quite positive about "Concord" before it released and became a commercial flop, Forbes said.
Bungie laid off workers in the middle of last year following the celebration of "Destiny 2's" The Final Shape expansion. The studio said at the time that it was working with PlayStation Studios leadership to help with one of its projects, "Gummy Bears."
The efforts were made in order to form a new studio within PlayStation Studios itself to continue working on the promising title, according to The Game Post.
