If you’re familiar with Iron Fist, you know his powers originate from K’un-Lun and his training with Lei-Kung. If Finn Jones’ latest Instagram post is any indication, part of Netflix’s Iron Fist series will explore Danny Rand’s origin and how he became Iron Fist, instead of just starting from the moment he arrives in New York City.

Danny learned of the mystical city of K’un-L’un from his father, Wendell Rand, who discovered it as a young boy. However, Wendell left K’un-L’un to become a billionaire in New York. After marrying Heather Duncan and giving birth to Danny, Wendell took his family back to K’un-L’un with his malicious colleague, Harold Meachum. A series of events bring Wendell and Heather to their untimely deaths, but archers from K’un-L’un save Danny and Lei-Kung takes him in as a martial art apprentice.

Once he grows older, Daniel is given a chance to defeat the dragon Shou-Lao to attain the power of the Iron Fist. He emerges victorious. When K’un-L’un reappears to humans on Earth years later, Danny returns to New York City to seek vengeance for his father’s death, manifesting his chi into his iconic ‘Iron Fist’ to give it a glowing, supernatural energy.

Finn Jones’ post could also be a nod to the Steel Serpent, aka Davos, the exiled son of Lei-King. During his quest to defeat Shou-Lou and obtain the power of the Iron Fist, Wendell Rand proved a better candidate. Though Wendell never battled Shou-Lou for the Iron Fist, Davos was envious when Danny Rand defeated the dragon. He’s been on a quest for vengeance ever since.

Steel Serpent has already been alluded to in Daredevil. “Steel Serpent” was the name of the heroin sold by Madam Gao, ally of Wilson Fisk. Steel Serpent’s symbol was even stamped on the packages.

If Iron Fist includes Danny Rand’s backstory on K’un-L’un, do you think it will be in the form of flashbacks like Daredevil’s past with Stick? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

The Struggle Is Not Real
If you’re looking for shock value, Iron Fist does not have it. Netflix and Marvel have turned an interesting superhero into a basic bro.
  • Colleen Wing is a delight
  • The last four episodes are significantly more entertaining
  • Problematic character development
  • Lackadaisical fight scenes
