Following the April Fools Day release of an 8-Bit Bayonetta game on Steam, it seems the official Sega website has begun counting down for an unspecified project. The image behind the counter shows Bayonetta’s signature gun shoes sparking rumors of a new Bayonetta game.
The Sega website doesn’t show anything besides the counter and the aforementioned photo of Bayonetta, which you can see below, and the line “Coming Soon” at the top of the page.
So what could this countdown be leading to? The obvious first thought is a third installment of the Bayonetta series. In an interview with the U.K’s Metro during E3 2016, Platinum Games’ director Hideki Kamiya said "Of course we want to make 3, why should it end at 2?" when asked about a third Bayonetta game.
With the Nintendo Switch available worldwide, a title like Bayonetta for the hybrid console could be a huge boon for the new console.
There’s also the possibility of the first two Bayonetta games getting Nintendo Switch ports. The first game was released back in 2009 before getting a port for the Wii U, and the sequel was a Wii U exclusive aunched in 2014.
Fans are also waiting for the release of the Bayonetta Super Smash Bros. series amiibo and was teased last September, so perhaps it has something to do with that. Luckily, the countdown ends around noon EST on April 11, so it won’t be long until fans learn what Sega and Platinum Games have up their sleeves.
In the meantime, let us know if you want a new Bayonetta game for the Nintendo Switch, ports of the first two games or something else entirely in the comments section below
