Some new Nintendo patents have popped up online and it seems these latest designs point to a brand new fitness device or controller.
According to a NeoGaf posting by user Rosti, the new Nintendo patent is titled "training implement, training system, and input device,” giving more credence to the idea that this new patent is for a fitness or wellness device.
The NeoGaf posting describes the controller as being hollow and made of an aluminum alloy.
The supposed Nintendo fitness controller will include an accelerometer, gyrometer, temperature sensor and load sensor while being in a U or horseshoe shape. There are a bunch of sketches and diagrams in the WIPO patent filing, which shows different exercises utilising the controller, and what appears to be a grip-strengthening add-on.
There are also some translations that mention “portable terminals" that will connect to the device but as Rosti admits, the translations are rough.
Of course, there’s a lot more jargon regarding the patent on the NeoGaf posting and the actual patent filing so you can peruse those two sources to get into the minute details of the supposed new Nintendo fitness controller.
And if you believe this has anything to do with the upcoming Nintendo NX , you’ll want to temper your expectations. This is most likely an add-on that will go with a specific Nintendo fitness title like the balance board.
