Nintendo Switch 2 Estimated to Sell 20 Million Units in First Year to Meet Expected Demand

Nintendo officially announced the Switch 2, which some analysts believe could sell more than 20 million units in its first year of availability to meet expected demand.

It seems like the Japanese video game company's new console will try and compete directly with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in terms of power.

One analyst noted that Nintendo has already avoided one major mistake that dampened the launch of Sony and Microsoft's modern systems.

Switch 2 Could Sell 20 Million Units in First Year

The analyst, Robin Zhu from Sanford C. Bernstein, said that Nintendo has a supply chain lined up for the launch of the Switch 2 console. He noted that this should be able to avoid the chip shortage that occurred in 2020 for other major consoles.

Zhu added that the video game company's supply chain could also help it sell 20 million units this year alone.

Circana analyst Mat Piscatella predicted earlier this month that the upgraded console will sell 4.3 million consoles in the United States alone in 2025, according to Game Spot.

The major interest for the Nintendo Switch 2 within the video game industry suggests that there is a large demand for the new console. However, it would have a long road ahead of itself before it could meet with the Nintendo Switch's 146 million lifetime sales.

The price point of the Nintendo Switch 2 could also determine just how quickly the new system is bought by interested players. The video game company has not yet provided any specific details regarding the console's price.

Avoiding a Major Pitfall

Many people are now expecting the Nintendo Switch 2 console might be one of the most popular gaming systems of all time. Suppliers are reportedly now preparing to ship a large number of units when the system finally comes out to the public, WCCFTech said.

The claim that Nintendo is able to avoid the pitfall that occurred in 2020 suggests that there would be no shortage of Switch 2 consoles in stores when it is released. This has apparently been one of the video game company's major concerns for quite a while.

Analyst George Jijiashvili noted that Nintendo has an existing base of at least 105 million users, which makes the idea of the Switch 2 selling a ton of units entirely possible. He added that the most important factor for the console's success is the transition period.

The analyst said that the biggest challenge for Nintnedo would be to manage the transition between the consoles effectively.

This is by convincing users that they should upgrade while also keeping users who stay on the base system supported and engaged, according to Digital Trends.
