As you journey through No Man’s Sky, you’ll have to pick up a lot of upgrades to your starship if you want to explore the stars.

However, to really travel between galaxies you’ll need Warp Drive for your ship.

There are a few players having trouble with this part of the game, so we’ve put together a step-by-step guide to putting together your Hyperdrive and how to fuel it whenever you want.

This isn’t an exact science, however, as every player’s No Man’s Sky experience is different: planets are different and situations will differ, but the general approach is the same.

1 . Get the Recipe for the Hyperdrive

So you’ve fixed up your starship and can travel between planets in the first galaxy you’re dropped off in. But now you’ll need to build the Hyperdrive, the upgrade that will allow you to warp.

While flying in space, you’ll get a distress signal from an alien on another planet. Travel to that planet and find the beacon, which will give you the coordinates to where the alien is hiding. Travel to that outpost and you’ll meet the alien.

You probably won’t understand what they are saying, unless you took the time to find the knowledge stones, and this is where everyone’s experience may differ. For me, the alien is in bad shape after fighting off the local animals and you are given three choices. I chose to recharge its exosuit with Carbon; it healed him up and the alien was grateful enough to give me the recipe for the Hyperdrive.

2. Assemble Hyperdrive

Now that you have the recipe, you’ll need to build it, but there’s an item you won’t find… The Dynamic Resonator.

The Dynamic Resonator, at this point in the game, can only be bought. If you look, a new waypoint will appear and it’s actually the Space Station. Get in your ship and head there.

Once you’re in the Space Station, plenty of ships pass in and out and you can find one that has the Dynamic Resonator for you.

3. Build the Warp Cell

Now that you have the Dynamic Resonator and assembled the Hyper Drive, you need fuel in the form of a Warp Cell.

You have the recipe for Warp Cells, but you are missing antimatter. Antimatter cannot be mined and you’ll eventually need to find the recipe to build your own, but for now, you need antimatter ASAP.

Some players will find an alien on the planet where they got the Hyper Drive recipe and Warp Cell, but I found it easier to look for a starship in the Space Station with antimatter available for purchase.

With the antimatter in hand, you can build a Warp Cell.

4. Find the Antimatter Recipe

You don’t want to continuously buy antimatter, so you’ll want to find the recipe on your own. To do this, you’ll actually need to use the Warp Drive and travel to the next galaxy.

Once you arrive, you should receive a signal about a Manufacturing Facility that houses some technology you need. It’ll pop up on your radar and you just simply travel to the planet it’s on.

The shelter is locked, so you’ll need grenades and/or a Boltcaster on your Multi-Tool to open it. Upgrade your Multi-Tool if need be, but be aware that the sentinels will start to attack you after you start to open the door.

Sentinels don’t go inside shelters, so quickly open the door and run inside. The alarms will be blaring inside; go to the control console and there you’ll pick up the Antimatter recipe.

Congratulations, you can now build your own Warp Cells.

And if you're wondering where you get the Electron Vapor, you just need to buy Suspension Fluid from one of the Galactic Trading Outposts. Once you have it, then you can craft the Electron Vapor, which you can then craft Antimatter from.

REVIEW SUMMARY
No Man's Sky
6.5
A Beautiful Sci-Fi Novel That's All Cover, No Book
'No Man's Sky' is a space exploration game unlike any other, for better and worse. It's a sci-fi adventure game that feels like classic sci-fi novel covers. Too bad it's missing so many chapters.
  • A massive universe to explore
  • Cool alien races
  • A brilliant showcase of procedural technology
  • Not much to do beyond resource collection
  • Alien interactions are fairly meaningless
  • Not as unique as originally advertised.
