An upcoming co-op off-roading racing game, "Over the Hill," is like a celebration of the "golden age of off-roading" that seems to be a spiritual successor to "Art of Rally."

Developer Funselektor's latest project takes the driving experience onto even more challenging terrain. The upcoming racing game features a visually stunning world that is filled with tough trails that players can conquer on their own or with other players.

They will use vehicles that were inspired by iconic automobiles from the 1960s, 1970, and 1980s. These include the Land Rover 110, Toyota Land Cruiser, and the Ford Bronco, to name a few.

"Over the Hill" is the second game that is made by Funselektor and Strelka Games. The two studios collaborated last year to bring much-beloved "Golden Lap," which was an F1-inspired management racer.

The upcoming co-op off-roading racing experience also draws on the personal experiences of Funselektor founder Dune Casu.

It was revealed that he left behind Vancouver's high rental costs and worked to transform a cargo van into a fully functional camper, according to Forbes.

His self-made camper featured a kitchen, bed, solar panels, and a workspace, which is something that he sorely needed.

Casu said that after developing several motorsport games, they wanted to try something new by letting players experience a vast world where they can lose themselves at a slower pace.

He added that there was something appealing about being out in the wilderness in the middle of nowhere. There was nothing but peace, the sounds of nature, and less distraction from the civilized world.

Cooperative Off-roading Racing Game

In "Over the Hill," players will be able to explore different off-roading regions that are connected by magical portals. The multiplayer mode of the game can support up to four players at the same time, Game Spot said.

Developer Funselektor also populated each area in "Over the Hill" with a variety of challenges that players can complete, as well as hidden collectibles that can be discovered.

It seems like it won't always be a simple stroll out in the wilds as there are various features to be wary of.

These include a day-night cycle, dynamic weather, and other environmental hazards that should not be overlooked. All of the different areas in "Over the Hill" were all inspired by real-life locations, which makes them even more immersive.

A lot of people are looking forward to the upcoming racing game as "Art of Rally" was considered one of the best titles of its time, according to Eurogamer.
