UPDATE: This rumor is getting more and more solidified, as multiple outlets are now reporting on sources confirming the Sept. 7 PS4 event.
The PlayStation Neo has been confirmed by Sony, but we still don’t know when the proper announcement for the new console will happen. The last official word from Sony was the company wasn’t sure when an announcement would be made. If recent rumors are to be believed, the company will officially reveal the PlayStation Neo Sept. 7 in New York City.
This rumor, like any other bit of information found online, should NOT be taken as 100 percent fact. The news of Sony’s plans for the Neo has come from gameblog.fr, who mention they have been tipped off by an anonymous source. This is the internet in 2016, just about anything can be faked, and some people go to really great lengths to do so.
That being said, there is precedent for Sony making a major announcement in New York City as opposed to Paris Games Week or Tokyo Game Show. The PS4 was announced in NYC at PlayStation Meeting 2013. This would also line up with the previous rumor the console will be coming around this October.
As for everything we already know about the PlayStation Neo, there’s really nothing concrete. Sony has kept things under wraps, other than the fact that the console actually does exist. Rumors have pointed to 4K resolution for gaming along with moderate increases to performance. If it were compared to the Xbox line of consoles, it seems the Neo will be more like the Xbox One S than the Scorpio.
That being said, perhaps Sony has been delaying the console announcement to quickly redesign the product. This would allow for the Neo to remain competitive with the Scorpio in terms of specs.
So what do you think? Are you hopeful we’ll see a PlayStation Neo reveal next month? Do you think the console has been redesigned after the Scorpio announcement? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
