The Aug. 1 Pokémon Sun and Moon news has been revealed and has confirmed new Pokémon along with new forms for older Pokémon, called Alola Forms. The Z-Moves shown off in previous trailers were also revealed in the latest Sun and Moon trailer.
There’s a lot to get to but check out the latest Pokémon Sun and Moon trailer below.
First off are the Alola Forms. These new forms of older Pokémon change the typing and abilities.
Three Gen 1 Pokémon have seen their typing and abilities change. The first is Exeggutor, which changes from a Grass and Psychic-type to a Grass and Dragon-type with the ability Frisk.
Vulpix and Ninetales change to Ice and then Ice and Fairy-type with the ability Snow Cloak.
And Sandshrew and Sandslash change to Ice and Steel-types with the ability Snow Cloak as well.
We have new Pokémon revealed in the latest Sun and Moon trailer as well including Oricorio, the bird Pokémon which changes its typing based on the island it is on going from Fire and Flying to Electric and Flying to Psychic and Flying to, finally, Ghost and Flying. It also has the ability Dancer, which copies any “dance” move used by the opponent. This includes Quiver Dance.
Minior is a new Rock and Flying-type with the ability Shield Down. This new ability seemingly changes Minor’s typing depending on the attack used against it. With the Shields Down Ability, it will have excellent defensive capabilities as long as its shell is intact. It will also be protected from status conditions. But when its HP drops below half, its shell will break, and it will change to a form better suited to attacking.
Then, we got Gumshoos the evolved form of Yungoose. It keeps its Normal typing and has the abilities Stakeout and Strong Jaw.
Fomantis and its evolved form Lurantis make their debuts as Grass types with the ability Leaf Guard. It has a new move called Solar Blade.
Mudsdale has a pre-evolved form called Mudbray. It has the Ground typing with the abilities Own Tempo and Stamina.
Trainers will be able to ride plenty of different Pokémon in Sun and Moon to cross barriers and such. We’ll update more as we learn more about them but you can ride a Tauros, Mudsdale, Sharpedo and a Charizard.
We also learned about the Island Challenge in Sun and Moon. It seems this will take the place of Gym Leaders, but that hasn’t been outright confirmed. But you’ll meets four different trainers called the Trial Captains and besides battling them, you’ll need to do a task for them such as finding ingredients or finding a certain Pokémon.
At the end of each trial, a Totem Pokémon will appear to challenge you. These Pokémon will have increased stats at the start of battle and can even summon other Pokémon to battle to find alongside them.
Once you clear each trial, you will face the Kahuna of each island in a Pokémon battle. Hana is one of these Kahunas.
We then get to the Z-Moves that were shown in previous trailers. You’ll be able to use this massive attack once in battle and supposedly there will be one for each type. Only four are shown in the trailer, including Electric, Fire, Water and Grass.
Pokémon Sun and Moon will release in Japan and North America, Nov. 18 and Europe on Nov. 23.
