With the Pokémon Go craze in full effect, Pokémon Sun and Moon looks to change the Pokémon franchise for its 20th anniversary.
The next installment in the history of the games, Sun and Moon will bring trainers to a brand new region with new Pokémon and stakes.
Both games don’t release until November but in a recent interview with Famitsu , Sun and Moon producer Junichi Masuda and director Shigeru Ohmori spoke in depth about the upcoming games. Among the most interesting details was a possible link between Sun and Moon and Pokémon Go .
Here’s a translation from Nintendo Everything regarding the subject.
“[Masuda, Ohmori] are also considering linkage with the smartphone app Pokemon GO which came out earlier this month. However, Masuda said that Pokemon GO is a game about catching Pokemon by walking all around the world. And even with the same Pokemon species, they have different appearance methods and catch rates in Sun/Moon . If they are to link the two games, they have to do it in a way that doesn’t break the balance of either game and even end up making both games boring. They still need to find an interesting idea that could make both games more interesting.”
Nintendo began its push into the mobile gaming sphere with its social app, Miitomo, and continues that push with Pokémon Go . With success in both apps, and Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing mobile games still to come, the link from mobile to console seems like a no-brainer.
Senior Director of Corporate Communications for Nintendo of America Charlie Scibetta told iDigitalTimes about the possibility of linking mobile and console games, saying “You’re tapping into something we are thinking about very seriously, and that’s the best way that these systems can work together. More to come on that front in the future.”
Pokémon Sun and Moon will release Nov. 18.
