Thank god Dominic Purcell is okay after his serious accident on set, because he just gave us the answer to a question we’ve been waiting for since May 2009. How did Wentworth Miller’s selfless character, Michael Scofield, survive death by electrocution?
As it turns out the answer to that question is simpler than you’d think: He just didn’t die. The electrocution presumably killed him, but he was apparently strong enough to handle it. If rumors are any indication Michael may be suffering some memory loss at the start of Season 5, but Purcell didn’t speak on that. He did say Michael got caught up with ISIS. When he wanted out, they sent him to prison in Yemen, hoping some time behind bars would change his mind. How naive of them, considering Michael has willingly gone to prison for lengthy periods of time since he first decided to break his brother out in Season 1.
“It’s tying into what’s going on in the world today with terrorism. The show is taking place in Yemen; we’re dealing with ISIS and ISA, and obviously we left off with Michael presumably dead. He wasn’t, he ended up working for this organization. It got to the point where he couldn’t do it anymore, and they threw him in a jail in Yemen to change his mind. He didn’t change his mind, they set him up…Paul Scheuring has written all of the nine episodes. Honestly, the fans are going to be blown away by this. It’s really a riveting, high-tension thriller. It’s an extraordinary, extraordinary show. I’ve seen the dailies of it, and it looks like a cross between Bourne Identity and American Sniper. It’s crazy. It’s really, really cool,” Purcell told Deadline.
Purcell is recovering from a huge accident on set after an iron bar fell atop his head. Even though he’s suffering from a broken nose, deep gashes and 150 stitches, Prison Break Season 5 is still on track to release during Fox’s 2017 midseason. The Legends of Tomorrow actor also revealed more details about the scene where he hurt himself . Coincidentally, it’s an actual prison break scene where he’s breaking in to save his brother.
“The regime in Yemen had collapsed, it was in complete chaos and turmoil, and the gates were open so all the prisoners were released. And I’m running in trying to get through and find Michael, and I can’t.”
Purcell’s injury will be worked into the script. His stunt double filled in for a few weeks, and everything he’s missed will be shot back in Vancouver. We still don’t know what’s good with Michael’s brain tumor, specifically if he’s still terminal, in which case we may see Michael die for real in Season 5. What is Michael’s fate?
