Season 4 of Apex Legends is currently going strong. The new season is very different from what fans originally thought. If you have been following the story, you know that the new legend that was originally announced to join the action in Season 4 was an up-close and personal brawler named Forge. Forge and his abilities were also leaked by data miners.
The character had a back story, lore, and was even mentioned on the official Apex Legends website. This led just about every fan to think that Forge was the Legend we are getting this season, but then Respawn bamboozled us. The developers revealed a new “Stories from the Outlands” trailer where we saw a new legend, Revenant, stabbing Forge in the back.
Respawn revealed that they only created Forge to mess with data miners and leakers. Their actual legend, Revenant, was leaked months earlier. The developers then created a fake legend to divert the leaker’s attention. Forge's abilities and character design were never actually developed. The entire scam worked just like Respawn planned. No other company has gone to these lengths in order to counter data miners.
"Honestly, it started as a fun way to misdirect dataminers who, at the time, felt like they had solved our next legend and had ruined our surprise," Respawn Design Director Jason McCord said to Dot Esports. "We actually purposefully leaked fake concept art and details of Forge’s kit in patches, so there would be a bread crumb trail by the time we announced him. It’s pretty insane, really. I can’t think of any other game that has gone through such hijinks."
Just when the above trailer was released, Apex Legends Executive Producer Drew McCoy also went on on Twitter to share is irritation with leaks and data miners. He has since left the company, though it's unlikely his departure was over his frustrations with leakers.

Leaks are the absolute worst. I've never worked on a single project where it was purposeful or wanted.
We spend insane amounts of time and energy to create cool surprises. Really sucks when someone wants internet points bad enough to ruin that.
If you are one of those few people that are still hoping for Forge to drop, there is some bad news. McCord confirmed that Forge will not be coming back and that he is “super-dead”.
