In the last two years, Samsung has promised to cut down its production of smartphones in order to desaturate its market; however the company could be ramping up production once again in 2017.
A new report out of China claims the Korean manufacturer could release up to five flagship smartphones next year. Consumers can reportedly expect to see the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S8 edge, the Galaxy Note 7, the Galaxy Note 7 edge and a new device called the Samsung Galaxy X.
Previous reports indicate the Galaxy X could be a foldable display device: a 5-inch smartphone that folds out into a 7-inch tablet. The device is codenamed Project Valley and Samsung has filed several patents for foldable display technology in recent years. April reports indicate that Samsung may begin mass producing foldable displays in late 2016.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 7 devices would likely be similar to such devices Samsung has released in the past, only with updated specifications.
With the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 currently scheduled to release in August, new rumors about 2017 Samsung smartphones cannot be confirmed at this time. There are few reports about such devices; however, Samsung may begin implementing features like 6GB of RAM and USB Type-C in future devices.
