The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is already on its last leg with U.S. carriers such as T-Mobile pushing out the end-of-life update, which will disable the defective smartphone. Reports indicate the smartphone will also receive a power-down update in Malaysia starting Dec. 31.
The update will commence Saturday at 9 p.m. locally in Malaysia. The update will hit handsets wirelessly and will power the device down once completely. Once Galaxy Note 7 handsets are drained of battery power, they won’t be able to be charged for power any more.
The update is also expected to roll out in Korea s o o n, first on carrier SK Telecom and then on carriers including KT and LG Uplus. Samsung has also extended its exchange program in Korea until the end of January; however, users who return devices after Dec. 31 may be penalized and unable to receive full exchange benefits.
The Galaxy Note 7 had also received end-of-life updates in New Zealand, Australia and Canada. AT&T, Verizon and Sprint will roll out their updates in January.
