Fans are speculating that SEGA is teasing a potential Virtua Fighter 6 reveal sometime in the future following a cryptic post by the video game studio.
The last time that the franchise got a mainline entry was in July 2006 before the PlayStation 3 became available for purchase. SEGA shared a teaser that made fans hopeful and argue points toward Virtua Fighter 6.
Virtua Fighter 6 Rumors
The situation comes after the official Japanese SEGA account on X uploaded an interesting post that raised eyebrows among fans in the West.
The post included an image of the studio written 54 times with the accompanying text, "Which one is not SEGA? Can you spot the odd one out?"
Many fans pointed out a particular part of the image, the second row and second column. This is where there is a difference that stands out very quickly. The company seemingly wrote "SE6A" instead of SEGA, according to Event Hubs.
So far, the video game company has not yet elaborated on what this particular difference could mean for fans. However, many people already started to speculate on what it could mean, particularly because of the number in the differently spelled SEGA.
There have been many rumors or alleged leaks spreading online this year that talked about the development of a brand new entry in the Virtua Fighter series. They claim that the newest game could be revealed at some point this year.
The situation comes as SEGA announced several revival projects for some of the studio's long-dormant intellectual properties last year. Out of these, the most notable were for franchises such as Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and Streets of Rage, Game Rant said.
A New Entry in the Franchise
However, many fans expected the Virtua Fighter series to also make a comeback sometime in the future. While this has not yet been officially confirmed, many people are still hopeful that the demand could urge the studio to do it.
SEGA also addressed the possibility of a new game in the Virtua Fighter series. This came after co-COO of SEGA Corporation and SEGA of America CEO Shuji Utsumi agreed that the classic is overdue for a return.
During an interview, Utsumi said that the Virtua Fighter games do not use a lot of tricks similar to what can be seen in the Street Fighter franchise. However, he said that the development team is looking for ways to "make it more dramatic," according to Comic Book.
