Details on Sniper Elite 4 haven’t exactly been flowing out of Rebellion, following the project’s announcement last month, but a new interview with Rebellion Head of Creative Tim Jones is shedding a bit more light on what fans can expect when Sniper Elite 4 debuts later this year.

The latest word on Sniper Elite 4 comes via GameWatcher, who recently spoke with Jones about Rebellion’s next game, and it sounds like we can expect several improvements to the Sniper Elite franchise when SE4 heads to PC and current-gen consoles later this year. Unsurprisingly, Jones says the technological constraints of the previous console generation prevented the studio from delivering some of the changes fans wanted to see in Sniper Elite 3. But the transition to new hardware, and decision not to develop for last-gen platforms, meant Rebellion didn’t need to make as many concessions while developing Sniper Elite 4.

“Often the things they are clamouring for we weren’t able to do with the previous iteration but wanted to,” Jones told GameWatcher. “This time around with Sniper Elite 4, the maps are much larger than they’ve ever been before, which we’ve been able to do because we are on PS4, Xbox One and PC.”

Given the news about the game’s expanded environments, it probably shouldn’t come as a shock that players will have more traversal options in Sniper Elite 4. Jones says fans shouldn’t expect the studio to feel like Tomb Raider or Uncharted, both of which feature a fair amount of climbing, but we will have new options for exploring each level. The studio is also reworking the game’s AI systems to make enemy behavior more believable.
