It turns out, you can’t get a refund on No Man’s Sky if you’ve played longer than two hours. Steam has added a disclaimer to No Man’s Sky’s game page that says: “The standard Steam refund policy applies to No Man's Sky . There are no special exemptions available. Click here for more detail on the Steam refund policy.”
It’s a bummer for those who feel No Man’s Sky wasn’t the game they were promised, but the backpedaling isn’t unexpected. Steam may have been offering refunds to a few users under the table, but once the whole internet got wind of it, they had to stop. “ No Man’s Sky refund” is currently the most popular search term related to the game on Google, which makes it hard for a game to sell more copies. You can’t have everyone who bought your game get a refund on a game that they have played 30 or 40 hours on.
Amazon and Sony have yet to release a statement, but it seems like you aren’t going to get a refund from them, either. Shamad Kamal Ahmad, former Sony director, shamed those who put a ton of time into a game and then wanted their money back.
If you’re getting a refund after playing a game for 50 hours you’re a thief.

If you aren’t having fun playing No Man’s Sky and feel it wasn’t the game you were promised, there isn’t much you can do. Hello Games created a space epic without the epic , and that’s a disappointment to everyone. Still, if you’ve put dozens of hours into a game just to say you didn’t enjoy it, it might be time to reevaluate how you game. Next time a game advertises itself as the future of gaming, it might be best to wait a few weeks and see what the internet has to say.
