Splatoon 2 weapon DLC has been heavily discussed since the game was first announced in January, but we didn’t know Nintendo was quite this serious about it. Just two days after the game’s launch, the Inkbrush from the original Splatoon will be brought to the new game in a free update.
That much was revealed via a tweet from Nintendo U.K. Saturday morning. “The Inkbrush arrives in Splatoon 2 tomorrow as a free update,” the surprising post reads. Taking that statement at face value, it would seem that all players will be able to try out the classic weapon as soon as it becomes available. The North American Twitter account doesn’t list an exact time for when this will be, but it’s set to go live at 11 a.m. locally in Japan. It could be a fairly similar hour in other territories too.
While this news will be exciting for the hardest of the hardcore Splatoon fans, others may be a bit confused. Doesn’t the Inkbrush exist in Splatoon 2 already? No, the weapon you’re thinking of is the Octobrush. While both weapons are based on the same idea, the Inkbrush is a bit thinner and faster than the one that currently exists. It’s an alternative for those who’d rather cover ground a little quicker than before. Since this is the first piece of DLC we’re getting, we don’t know if the Splatoon 2 version will have any changes. For the sake of simplicity and familiarity, we anticipate only minor tweaks at best.
Just like the original game, Splatoon 2 has been strongly associated with an aggressive DLC strategy. Alongside returning favorites like the Inkbrush, totally new weapons will be added to the game as well. During the game’s pre-release Nintendo Direct earlier this month, the umbrella-shaped Brella weapon made its debut. New gear and stages will be added to the game over time as well.
Those who’ve just purchased Splatoon 2 should also be getting ready for the game’s first Splatfest during the weekend of Aug. 4. This time, teams will be duking it out over the not-so-classic feud of Mayo vs. Ketchup. Which side will you choose?
