Admit it: no matter how unlikely, part of you was hoping that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story would have a Star Wars: Episode VIII teaser that somehow slipped under-the-radar right up until the moment you sat down in your theater seat.
Alas, we still don’t even know the subtitle for Star Wars: Episode 8.
But unlike you and I, who sat down in a multiplex chair swarming with head lice, surrounded by screaming high schoolers, BBC Entertainment Correspondent Lizo Mzimba saw Rogue One with executive producer and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. He did what any of us would do: forget about the current movie and probe for info on the next one.
“Probably heading into spring you’ll start to see things,” Kennedy said in reference to Star Wars: Episode 8.
That’s a pretty broad release date window for an Episode 8 teaser trailer or subtitle reveal, but ComingSoon points out two very intriguing possibilities.
First, 2017’s Star Wars Celebration will be held in Orlando April 13-16. Sounds like spring to me.
Second, Beauty and the Beast is out in theaters March 17, 2017. And while that’s not technically spring yet, I think most would agree it’s close enough by corporate marketing reckoning. And the promise of a Star Wars: Episode 8 trailer would get butts in seats.
With Star Wars: Episode 8 is less than a year away, due out Dec. 15, 2017, they have to show us something sometime (unless Adam Driver gets his way). If we don’t know the subtitle by March 17, it’s close to a sure thing we’ll know it come mid-April.
