Starbound finally left Steam Early Access on Friday, more than two years after showing up on Valve’s digital marketplace, and fans around the globe have one more reason to be excited about the arrival of Starbound v1.0: Steam Workshop support .

For the last couple of years, modding your Starbound installation has been considerably more difficult (for some users) than it needed to be. Players were forced to track down reliable mods from a variety of sources, with many relying on Nexus Mods and the Starbound forums , and the installation process proved too daunting for some players. Some players certainly feel comfortable modifying installation directories, but the same can’t be said for the entire Starbound community. Thankfully, that’s all a thing of the past because Steam Workshop support arrived alongside the rest of the new features in Starbound v1.0.

Obviously, it’ll take a little time for Starbound modders to get their creations into the Steam Workshop’s newest repository. Only 34 mods have been uploaded at the time of publication. That said, hundreds of Starbound mods can already be found around the web and we’d expect to see the vast majority of them added to the Steam Workshop in the next few days. And we’re not sure anyone is going to complain about the addition of one-click mod support for Starbound . Even if it takes a little time to reach its full potential.

For more on Starbound , take a couple of minutes to release the new launch trailer published by Chucklefish. Then head down to the comments section and let us know if you’re planning to take advantage of Starbound ’s new Steam Workshop support during launch weekend.

Starbound is now available for Windows and OS X.
