February-launching Amiibo (Nintendo)

Looks like we’ve finally got an official Amiibo wave 3 release date: Based on a new leak from GameStop, as reported by Nintendolife, the third wave of Amiibo figures aren’t actually going to hit on the same day—they’ll start trickling out throughout the course of February. That may actually be good news, as it will make life very slightly more difficult for speculators. But it’ll also make it more difficult for you as you try to get the figure of your dreams. Question is: Which ones will be super rare from this set?

Amiibo wave 3 consists of eight figures: Bowser, Mega Man, Sonic, Sheik, Shulk, Toon Link, King DeDeDe, and Ike. Based on the GameStop leak, none of these figures have a firm “street date.” That means that, as soon as the shipment comes in, stores can put them on the shelves. This was not the case for the last two Amiibo waves, which had day-and-date releases nationwide. And it’s a great foil for speculators.

So, with that in mind and considering the vagaries of national shipping, the release dates leaked on Reddit are guidelines, not exact. That said, here they are: Bowser will start trickling out around Feb. 6, Shulk, Sheik, Toon Link, Ike, and King DeDeDe circa Feb. 13 and the first two third-party characters, Mega Man and Sonic, will hit around Feb. 20.

But remember, this is a Reddit leak: these Amiibo wave 3 release dates aren’t necessarily entirely accurate. A lot of Interneters have said that their local GameStops are saying that all of wave 3 will hit on Feb. 1, so, as so often with release dates for this sort of thing, you’re going to be working in the dark a little bit. But don’t worry. Within a few short weeks, those Amiibos will be in your hands. Or at least on eBay.

As for which ones are likely to end up on eBay this time around: The rarest Amiibo wave 3 figures, in our estimation, are likely to be Mega Man, Sonic, Sheik, and Ike. Yea, I know that’s more than half of them, but those are the ones who aren’t going to appear in any other Nintendo games anytime soon. Shulk may come back around for Xenoblade X, so he’s not on the list for the moment.
