Hannibal season 3 officially has a premiere date. The show is coming back to NBC on at 10 p.m. June 4 . That’s a Thursday—a pretty prime time slot. It’s been a long wait for this news, and it will unfortunately be a longer wait yet until the season actually comes out. But I think it will be worth it, and that this season has strong potential to be the best yet. I couldn’t be more excited. Check out the season 3 poster above, which show creator Bryan Fuller revealed on Twitter.
Why Hannibal Season 3 Will Be The Best Season Yet
The June 4 premiere, officially confirmed by Variety, will bring two critical changes to Hannibal, and those two changes are a large part of why I think this season will be the show’s best. These aren’t even really plot-focused—I won’t spoil Hannibal season 2 for you, although there’s a lot to untangle in season 3—they are more elemental than that. Let’s take a look.
Reason 1: Gillian Anderson is a Regular
First up: For Hannibal season 3, Gillian Anderson got promoted from a recurring character to a regular. That means she’s going to be in every episode. Considering she is the third best thing about the show, after Mads Mikkelsen and shots of meat cooking, this is going to be a dramatic improvement. Every scene with her is a pleasure, and now we’re going to get way more of them. And it’s the most interesting relationship on the show. So hooray to that!
Reason 2: Hannibal Season 3 is set in Europe
List of places more fun than Baltimore: Pretty much everywhere. List of places way, way more fun than Baltimore: Europe. Hannibal season 3 relocates from the home of The Wire to the home of, uh, Europeanness, for a season set in an area that has traditionally been of great importance to Hannibal Lecter. I’m not sure how that will play out yet, but I’m still happy about the change of scenery. Will we see Hannibal out of his element? Or will he quickly settle in to a life of even more sophistication? At the least, there will be lots of great dining options.
So, long story short of it, I’m wildly excited for Hannibal season 3. It’s out on June 4 on NBC. What are you hoping to see? Do you agree that this season has a ton of potential?
