The Hulk’s role in Thor: Ragnarok has been one of the biggest questions about the film’s plot, and now we have confirmation about how Bruce Banner and the Asgardian God’s paths will collide. Marvel released a new synopsis which reveals Thor will have to defeat Hulk in a gladiatorial contest.
"In Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!”
It appears Hulk, last seen flying into space in Avengers: Age of Ultron, will end up on an alien planet fighting gladiator-style, just like he was in the Planet Hulk comic book arc (years back, rumored to be the plot of the next Hulk live-action movie). The synopsis also aligns with photos from San Diego Comic Con teasing Hulk’s new intergalactic gladiator armor and Jeff Goldblum’s casting as Grandmaster. Though he’s not in the Planet Hulk arc, Grandmaster has an affinity for games and is known to pit superheroes against each other.
Mark Ruffalo described Thor: Ragnarok as an “intergalactic buddy road trip” to Entertainment Tonight. “I think it will be smashing. You’ll see a lot more Hulk and I think it’ll–” he began, before co-star Woody Harrelson cut in to ask if Hulk will be even “Hulk-ier” this time around. “The Hulk gets Hulk-ier. The Hulk Hulks out. Hulk-ier and bigger.”
Confirmed by the Doctor Strange post-credits scene, the sorcerer supreme will aid Hulk and Thor on their journey across the realms. Are you excited to see the trio together? Let us know in the comments below.
Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters Nov. 3, 2017.
