Developer Inkl has just announced that Pendragon, their turn-based strategy game, will soon be launching for the PC via Steam and GOG on September 22.
Pendragon will put players in the year AD 673. With Camelot having fallen and the jealous Sir Mordred dividing the fellowship of the Round Table with his hatred and lies, King Arthur is now faced with his final battle. The question of who will keep the dream of Camelot alive is now up in the air.
A turn-based strategy experience that uses a grid-based format, Pendragon puts a certain focus on storytelling. Every player's move can change and drive the narrative, causing story twists and opening new doors for gameplay opportunities. Tons of approaches can be used depending on your playstyle.
Players can choose from a number of characters from medieval lore and some notable members of the Knights of the Round Table, each with their own unique personalities that will inevitably dictate the story. These include Morgana le Fay, known for being treacherous, Queen Guinevere, who is haunted by her past mistakes, Sir Lancelot and his quality of being French, and Sir Gawaine and his love affair with the bottle. Once the character has chosen, they must then journey and assemble a ragtag group of honorable knights, mighty heroes, and humble peasants to assist them.
Throughout their adventure, these characters will have their own dispositions and abilities that grow and change depending on how the story is going. Gameplay-wise, I am assuming it is going to be as simplistic as possible, letting the story and decision-making aspect of Pendragon shine instead. Pendragon will still be run through the ink engine, the technology behind the award-winning Heaven’s Vault and 80 Days, so it still is something to look forward to for fans of turn-based strategy and narrative driven experiences.
