MetaPublishing and developer ComonGames have just announced that a demo for their upcoming adventure title The Uncertain: Light at the End is now available to download. The demo will be available from today until June 22 as part of the Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition.
The Uncertain: Light at the End is a game set on Earth in the near future where robots have overrun humanity for unknown reasons. The robots, made by the USS Corporation, introduced nanites into the human’s water supply that soon put them into a coma. These unconscious humans are then put onto ships and have been directed to an unknown location. Some of the people woke up and managed to hide and survive just underneath the robots' figurative noses. Players take on the role of a girl named Emily who is with a group of stragglers just trying to survive. They are soon joined by RT, an inventor robot who joins the group and will try to help the few remaining humans to survive.
Playing through the demo, The Uncertain feels like The Last of Us, but with robots instead of zombies. The Uncertain: Light at the End's demo mostly involves puzzle solving and exploration. I assume this will be the same tone for the rest of the game as the controls merely just provide options for walking, jogging, and interacting with objects in the environment. It looks like combat would just be made up of either cutscenes, stealth missions, or quick-time events. However, it is still too early to tell since the game is still in development and the demo mostly feels like an alpha version rather than a preview of a completed version.
The Uncertain: Light at the End will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch after its launch on PC via Steam in 2020. The Uncertain: Light at the End is just one of the many games featured in the Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition. Other titles from notable developers that have been showcased with demos for players to try out include The Survivalists, CrossCode, Ghostrunner, and Rock of Ages III: Make & Break, to name a few.
