The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman wants you to know one thing about Jesus: he’s a badass.

Jesus, a character in Kirkman’s comics, will make his debut in The Walking Dead season 6. Show-watchers are curious about the mysterious Jesus, but comic book readers know how important he becomes in the story. Kirkamn explained to Entertainment Weekly why people should be excited to see Jesus in the show.

“Jesus is just such a fun character to write in the comics,” Kirkman said on EW. “At this point in the life of the series, my thought is the apocalypse has been going on for so long, the people you encounter in your day-to-day life have to be extremely skilled. And they’ve been surviving for a reason, whether they were at a place like Alexandria that’s very safe, or they’re a great leader of their group and somewhat sadistic but in control of their group like Negan, or someone who’s an absolute, complete badass like Jesus.”

We won’t get into comic book spoilers here, but Jesus essentially becomes one of Rick’s most valued allies when Negan comes into the picture. It’s no secret everyone is afraid of what Negan’s appearance means to the series. Negan’s moral, charming, vile, vicious, and downright psychotic at times. What makes it worse is he’s unpredictable when it comes to the lengths he’ll take to keep his people safe.

The good news is, The Walking Dead will continue no matter who Negan murders with his bat Lucille. AMC programming president Joe Stillerman spoke to Vulture early January regarding the fate of The Walking Dead series. Silverman confirmed the network is open to continuing the series as long as Kirkman continues to write the comics.

“The answer to how long the show will go on in some way is directly correlated with the health of the storytelling in the comics,” Stillerman told Vulture. “Those comics are firing on all cylinders. He still writes every line of dialogue in those books, and is as engaged as he was when I think he was sitting around in Kentucky writing the first issue. That is very much part of the DNA of the show. He sort of felt like, in real life, this goes on for a very long time. We’re along for that ride.”

The Walking Dead season 6 returns Feb. 14 on AMC.
