The Walking Dead Season 7 episode 3 is all about Daryl and The Saviors. Negan wants Daryl to become one of his men. Negan really likes Daryl and it’s one of the worst things that could’ve possibly happened to him.
We see Daryl naked, dirty, cold and scared in a dark room. They’re playing this horrible song over and over, so Daryl never gets a moment of peace. Dwight keeps feeding Daryl dog food and trying to convince him to obey Negan. Daryl, of course, refuses.
Dwight goes out on a code “Orange” run, which means someone has escaped from Sanctuary. Turns out the person who fled was a friend of Dwight named Gordon. Negan called him out for doing “grunt” work instead of going to have sex with one of the girls in the compound, so long as the girl says yes, of course. Negan is very big on consent here, and we see this throughout the episode.
Before we see Dwight again, Daryl gets an opportunity to escape. Daryl tries to sneak out of the compound, but it was a trap. Negan let one of his men leave the door unlocked as a test to see if Daryl is ready to submit. Sherry, Negan’s wife and Dwight’s ex wife, tries to stop Daryl from leaving his cell. She tells him there’s much worse things Negan will do to him. Negan tries to threaten Daryl, but he didn’t care. Daryl is completely broken, and refuses to submit.
Dwight catches up with Gordon. He demands Gordon come back with him, but Gordon tells Dwight he has nothing left in The Sanctuary. Dwight threatens him, and Gordon reluctantly goes back. Dwight doesn’t feel good about taking Gordon back, so he shoots him in the back.
Negan calls Dwight and Daryl into a meeting. Daryl refuses to say anything. Negan tells Daryl the story of how Dwight became his righthand. Negan admits he was hot for Dwight’s sister and asked her to marry him, to which she was like, “I need to think about it.” When Dwight’s sister died, Sherry and he returned to The Sanctuary. Sherry asked Negan to spare Dwight’s life and she would marry him. Negan accepted, but scarred Dwight. Negan asks Daryl who he is and he responds, “Daryl.” Dwight brings him back to the cell, and Daryl tells him he understands why he did what he did. Dwight leaves a crying Daryl alone in his cell with crappy music playing in the background.
