Andrew Lincoln wants people to be satisfied with The Walking Dead Season 7, but realizes not everyone will love what they are building towards in the series.

During an interview with TheWrap, Lincoln revealed his reaction to the criticism The Walking Dead Season 7 faced. He knows people aren’t happy with Glenn and Abraham’s deaths, but it’s a major part to a larger story.

“Obviously I’ve heard that people are not happy and that makes me unhappy because of the amount of work we all put into the show,” Lincoln said. “There is a sense of a bigger story that’s being told and I have absolute faith in Scott, the writing team, and the producers of the show. But I will say that I think the back eight are the exact opposite of the front eight.”

The show is definitely taking its time to build up Negan and the All Out War storyline from the comic books. We saw how Negan thinks and works in the first half of The Walking Dead Season 7, but now it’s time for Rick’s group to rise up again. Rick finally realized there was no making peace with The Saviors. Yes, they were wrong for attacking The Saviors the way they did, but Negan would’ve found their community eventually. Negan needs to be stopped and it’s up to The Kingdom, Hilltop and Alexandria to make that happen.

Rick’s realization helped bring the gang back together. Rick went to the Hilltop community to apologize to Maggie and tell her he’s ready to fight. Lincoln explained to Entertainment Weekly how relieved he was that his character was finally ready to take back Alexandria.

“It sucks for that first half of the season to be a guy that led this group for so long — and they’ve been not without their trials and tribulations but there’s always been some semblance of hope in Rick — and to have that beaten out of him is heartbreaking, at least it was for me. I did not enjoy filming on set,” Lincoln told EW . “I was not a happy camper. To have unity, just the beginnings of the flame being ignited again, was enough to get me excited for the back eight.”
