It remains uncertain whether Samsung will release its 6GB RAM Galaxy Note 7 model in China. The manufacturer announced the device for the Chinese market Friday; however, there were no further details about the version with higher RAM capacities, according to tech blog PlayfulDroid.
Several reports have suggested Samsung had an exclusive Galaxy Note 7 model coming to China. An official from the company even discussed the model at a launch event in Korea in mid-August, stating that Chinese consumers desired more memory and power for higher productivity. However, when the Galaxy Note 7 releases in China Sept. 1, consumers will be able to purchase the standard model with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
The device will sell for CNY 5,988 in China, which equates to $897 or €799. More than one million prospective customers pre-registered (not preorders) for the device within two hours of the launch, according to GSMArena. This suggests a great interest in the Galaxy Note 7 among Chinese consumers.
It is possible the higher capacity Galaxy Note 7 model may simply release at a later date. Rumors have suggested the beefier smartphone may sell for CNY 6,088. In addition to 6GB of RAM, the device is also expected to include 128GB of internal storage.
Most specs for the high capacity Galaxy Note 7 are the same as the standard model and include a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440 resolution) dual-edge curved display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chip, a 12-megapixel rear lens and 5-megapixel front lens, both with f/1.7 aperture, a 3,500mAh fast charging battery and the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system. Special features include an an iris scanner, secure folder and IP68 water, wind and dust resistance.
The Galaxy Note 7 has been available in most major markets, including the U.S., since Aug. 19.
