The Galaxy Note 7 has been on the market for less than a week and early adopters have already sniffed out an issue with the smartphone. It appears the S-Pen stylus of some Galaxy Note 7 handsets is getting stuck in the chassis, despite being inserted properly.
Some new Galaxy Note 7 owners have made videos showing how they are unable to remove the S-Pen from the device. The stylus includes the same press-to-eject feature Samsung first introduced on the the Galaxy Note 5 in 2015.
To remove the S-Pen, users must press down on the top while it's still in the chassis. From there, the top pops out of the device and users can remove the S-Pen for use. Some users have found they are unable to press down on the stylus to initiate its removal.
YouTuber Zaryab Khan of Xee Tech Care discovered that the issue was the click-top of the S-Pen, not the device itself. The click-top was becoming stuck in the down position, making it difficult to remove the stylus. Khan showed how he had to forcefully tap his Galaxy Note 7 handset to remove the S-Pen from the device’s body.
Samsung has yet to comment on the issue; however, another Galaxy Note 7 user was able to get his carrier to replace the defective smartphone.
This S-Pen issue is similar to the issue seen on the Galaxy Note 5, in which the S-Pen got stuck in the device when users inserted it backwards. If users forcefully removed the stylus, it would damage the smartphone’s S-Pen functions. Samsung has since fixed the S-Pen issue on the Galaxy Note 5 and has insisted that problem is not an issue with the Galaxy Note 7.
